UPDATE: Life-saving measures taken on Interstate 310 shooting, another victim succumbs to injuries

UPDATE (July 12): In an update released Monday afternoon, the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office has released the identity of one of the two victims involved in the shooting, including that one that has since succumbed to his injuries.

One subject, an 18-year-old male that resides in Vacherie, La., was treated for a gunshot wound to
his back and was released from the hospital a short time later. The second was 25-year-old Dovante
Mitchell from Edgard, La., who sustained a much more severe injury from the gunshot and later died at the hospital.


Detectives believe that the victims were commuting through St. Charles Parish from New Orleans to St. John and St. James Parishes when the shooting occurred on the elevated portion of Interstate 310 in St. Rose, La.

ST. ROSE, La. (WGNO)— St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office began investigating a shooting that happened on Interstate 310 South Bound around 3:30 a.m.

The St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office 911 center received multiple calls about the incident.

Deputies arrived on the scene and discovered a white-colored Dodge Durango sports utility vehicle located in the roadway with two gunshot victims.

The victims were near the section of 310 that crosses over Airline Highway/US 61.

According to SCSO, life-saving measures were immediately taken with the help of St. Charles Parish Emergency Medical Services.

The victims were transported to University Medical Center for treatment.

Although the vehicle occupied by the injured victims was located on Interstate 310, investigators
are still determining the actual location of where the incident took place.
