Update: August 20, 3:00 p.m. — On Friday, Houma PD announced the arrest of Jamanie Dotch, who had been wanted for attempted murder in the shooting that occurred earlier this month.

On Thursday night, police were notified that Dotch had been seen walking in the area of Morgan Street.

When they arrived, officers observed a male subject walking around the intersection of Morgan and Roanoke streets. Once he saw the police, the subject tried to run away, but was later caught.

The subject was identified as Dotch.

Upon searching the area, officers also found a semi-automatic pistol. While it is unsure whether the weapon belonged to Dotch, it was collected as potential evidence in the case.

Dotch was booked into the Terrebonne Parish Juvenile Detention Center where he faces a charge of attempted first-degree murder.

Although the suspect is in custody, police are still searching for information related to this case. Anyone with details should contact Houma PD or CrimeStoppers.

Update: August 9, 3:00 p.m. — Police have identified 17-year-old Jamanie Dotch of Wolf Parkway as the suspect involved in last week’s shooting.

Video surveillance revealed Dotch approached the area of Grinage Street and Point Street on a bicycle. An altercation arose between the Dotch and the 60-year-old woman shortly before the shooting.

The video also reveals the final moments of the incident, when Dotch, still armed, ran back to his bicycle and fled the scene.

Dotch is wanted for attempted murder and possession of a firearm in a school zone. It was also reported that he escaped from Bridge City Center for Youth in Shreveport in June.

Anyone with any information on Dotch’s whereabouts should contact Houma PD or CrimeStoppers. He is considered armed and dangerous.


HOUMA, La. (WGNO) — Police in Houma respond to a shooting that occurred less than a block away from an elementary school.

Shortly after 1 p.m. on Friday, HPD responded to the 600 block of Grinage Street.

It was reported that a 60-year-old woman was in the area picking up her grandchildren from school when she was approached by an unidentified male who was armed with a weapon.

An investigation revealed that the shooting fired a shot at the woman, striking her in the lower torso. Shortly after firing the shot, the suspect fled the area on foot.

The woman was transported to a local hospital for her injuries.

Neither the shooter nor the victim have been identified.

HPD is collecting information from the scene, including witness interviews and surveillance footage, in an effort to identify the shooter.
