NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – Euric Cain has agreed to a plea deal that will keep him behind bars for the next 50 years.

The deal includes a guilty plea for attempted murder, second degree rape, and battery on a correction officer. Cain will be officially sentenced on Monday, October 31, and he is expected to serve 50 years for the attempted murder and 45 years for the second degree rape charge, with both sentences to run concurrently.

The sentence for the battery on a corrections officer charge will be decided on Monday.

The New Orleans man was charged with shooting Tulane University medical student Peter Gold in the stomach in November 2015, and then continuing his one-man crime wave by raping a local couple after carjacking them less than 24 hours later.

Cain, 22, attempted to harm himself with a sweatshirt in his cell last December, shortly after his capture.
