NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – Two people have been arrested for a shooting in Covington last night that left one victim in the hospital.

The shooting occurred around 9:40 p.m. on the night of December 8, at an apartment complex on South Jefferson Avenue, according to a press release by the Covington Police Department.

Responding officers found an 18-year-old man suffering from a single gunshot wound to his upper body. The victim was transported to North Oaks Medical Center in Hammond and is currently listed in stable condition, according to the CPD.

21-year-old Kayla Clark and her boyfriend Andre Maurice Waters Jr. were both arrested on the scene.

Police believe the shooting was related to a drug deal gone bad. Initial reports suggest the victim and another 18-year-old man arrived by car at the apartment complex to purchase drugs from Clark and Waters.

Waters is believed to have shot through the windshield of the car, striking the victim once.

Waters has been charged with attempted first degree murder, while Clark faces charges of attempted distribution of schedule I narcotics and principal to the crime of attempted first degree murder.
