Christmas cheer alive at Deanie’s in the Quarter

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO)- This is a special time of year at Deanie’s Seafood in the French Quarter as the Vince Vance Holiday Kids Sing-A-Long & Dance Party is this Saturday.  The party is a part of owner Barbara Chifici’s love of the holidays,  and she decks out the place accordingly.

Chifici told us, “I really enjoy what the children see in Christmas. They get so excited that Santa Claus is coming. They love all the decorations and all the lights, and I’m just happy to see all the kids enjoying everything.”

“When I was young, it was a big event for us to come to Canal Street and see the windows at D.H. Holmes, and Maison Blanche and Mr. Bingle. Couldn’t wait for that to happen, and I always dreamed about having a place where I could decorate a window or two,” says Chifici.

We also asked about her favorite scene.

“Of course it’s the nativity scene. You’ve got to have that for Christmas, but every year it changes. My right hand is Shane Scalon, and he does all the decorating for me,” she says.

The culmination of the holidays at Deanie’s is the Vince Vance Holiday Kids Sing-A-Long & Dance Party kicking off this Saturday.

Chifici says it’s custom-made for kids.

“I just wanted something where children could be children cause they can’t sit in a chair too long.  What I’ve done is develop a show with Vince Vance, that children can come in jeans, they can come in their pajamas, or if they want them dressed fancy – that’s fine too – but the children actually participate in this show.”
