NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – Cedric Richmond has secured a fourth term in the U.S. House of Representatives.
The Democrat representing the Second District won his race with 67 percent of the vote, with over 150,000 votes cast in his favor.
Not one to rest on his laurels, Richmond told News With a Twist anchor LBJ that he’s ready to continue working for the people of Louisiana.
“We still need about $2.6, $2.7 billion for the people of Baton Rouge and the surrounding areas that were inundated with water,” Richmond said. “We have to get the rest of the money to fix Baton Rouge and the rest of the flooded areas.”
Richmond defeated Kip Holden and Kenneth Cutno.
Holden, the Mayor-President of Baton Rouge, faced heavy criticism for his absence after Alton Sterling’s killing at the hands of police. He ended up with 22 percent of the vote.
Outsider Cutno touted his activism in and around Baton Rouge this past year, to no avail. He only managed to pull in 11 percent of the vote.
