NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — A change in plans for Mayor LaToya Cantrell’s participation in a conference of mayors scheduled this week in Argentina.

The Mayor’s communications staff announced in an email Tuesday (Oct. 18), that she will attend the conference virtually– not in person.

According to the email, the Mayor will participate in two panel discussions.

On Thursday, the discussion is called “Developing Green and Thriving Neighborhoods,” and the Mayor will highlight green infrastructure and recreational improvements in the “Gentilly Resilience District.”

On Friday, Cantrell will join a panel discussion called “Rising Local Ambition for Climate Change: How Can Cities and Businesses Work in Partnership to Accelerate Climate Action.” The Mayor will highlight the “Solar for All NOLA” program.

“As a low-lying City with a rapidly shrinking coastline, New Orleans remains on the frontlines of climate change, and other cities and city leaders are looking to how New Orleans is actively combatting this ongoing crisis,” said the City of New Orleans in the email.

Cantrell recently returned from a trip to Amsterdam for another conference, which drew the ire of the Metropolitan Crime Commission. The MCC claimed that a photo appeared to show the Mayor sitting in an upgraded area on one of her flights, and demanded to know who paid for upgrade.

The Mayor’s office has not responded.
