NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – The New Orleans City Council is discussing possibly bringing Uber X to New Orleans. Uber X is the low-cost version of the ride-sharing service.

On Thursday, Uber listed several proposals before the City Council that they say will make it “difficult for them to operate.” These proposals include a fee of fifty cents out of every ride to be given to the city, vehicle inspections twice a year, no vehicles older than seven years and additional insurance coverage.

New Orleans Uber General Manager Tom Hayes, explained that every ride provides $1 million of coverage to a driver; that is 20 times what is required for cabs.

No final decision have been made yet.
