City signs lease to bring Four Seasons to old World Trade Center building

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Thursday afternoon, Mayor Mitch Landrieu signed the city’s 99 year lease agreement that will bring a Four Seasons Hotel to the foot of Canal Street.

After narrowing a list of ten proposed development projects to five, the city council signed-off on the winner.

Landrieu says bringing in the Four Seasons will return the old World Trade Center building to a position of prominence in the city.

“Our mantra is on time, on task, on budget and make it as good as New Orleans should have always been,” Landrieu said during the signing ceremony on Thursday.

Renovation plans call for creating a 350 room luxury hotel that will include a two-story rooftop observation deck as well as an additional 76 private residences.

The renovation work is set to begin later this year with the hotel opening in 2017.
