NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – Built between 1722 and 1732, Lafitte’s Blacksmith Shop Bar on Bourbon Street is known to be one of the oldest buildings in America. It escaped two great fires and was believed to be to have been used by the Lafitte brothers, Jean and Pierre, as a New Orleans base for their Barataria smuggling operation. Rumor has it Jean Lafitte hid his gold in the fireplace inside the establishment.
According to the tour guide who goes by “Bloody Mary,” the establishment still has loads of paranormal activity.
“You have invisible hands that might grab at your cocktails, or sometimes other body parts,” the tour guide eerily described. “You have disembodied voices that sometimes call you near the piano. They’ve been known to tinkle a few ivories on its own. So we’ve seen apparitions. We’ve heard them. We’ve felt them. We’ve seen things move around. This is a great place.”
This watering hole is not just frequented by locals, but ghosts who keep coming back.
