NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – Workers with New Orleans Sewerage and Water Board are at the scene of a massive sinkhole in the Irish Channel.
Neighbors tell WGNO that the sinkhole began about 4 a.m. Thursday with a small fountain in the 400 block of Constantinople Street. But my mid-morning, the street was covered in a thick mud from the spewing leak.
As of late Thursday afternoon, enough dirt had been removed from under the pavement that huge sections of the road began to crumble. The hole is about 15-feet deep.
We have a crew on the scene and will update this post with new information.
