COVINGTON, La. (WGNO) – When it comes to wine etiquette, Adam Acquistapace of Acquistapace’s Covington Supermarket has everything you need to know.

What do you do when someone walks up to your house and tells you they brought you a bottle of wine?

“Obviously, you thank them for it and say “you shouldn’t have.” Then you really want to find out what kind of wine it is.” Acquistapace says. Questions like “Is this something we should drink now?” or “Should we drink it later?” may come to mind.

Acquistapace says if someone brings you something like a Corton-Charlemange, or a Potent-Canet, then you might not want to drink it right away.  “They may intend for you to put it away somewhere. You don’t want it to be a 3 a.m. bottle of wine after you’ve had a few bottles already,” he says.

Wines such as H3 Cabernet and La Crema Pinot Noire are examples of wines that are made to drink, so drink them as much as you want.

Acquistapace says, “When someone comes in just ask them, ‘Is this wine meant to be for dinner?’ If they say yes, then open it up. If they say, ‘No, just hold it. Put it aside.’ That way as the night goes on, somebody’s not popping the cork in the middle of the night.”
