It’s a month to think pink, with plenty of philanthropic options in the greater New Orleans area.

You still have a few weeks to train for the Race for the Cure, which takes place on October 25, in City Park. Even if you don’t feel up to competing in the 5K run, register to support the cause and come cheer on the runners. It’s sure to be a sea of pink and white taking over the Crescent City. Kids can register at a reduced rate, and the “Kids for the Cure” area will have activities for children 12 and under, who must be accompanied by a registered adult.

As locals, many of us only head to Bourbon Street with tourists in tow. But make your way to our city’s most famous street this month and stop in at the Hard Rock Cafe to check out its “Pink-tober” specials, such as the “flight for the cure.” It’s is a trio of pink margaritas, watermelon, pomegranate and wild-berry flavors, served with pink tortilla chips and house-made salsa. There’s also a non-alcoholic wild-berry smoothie and red velvet cake–all delicious reasons to rock out to raise awareness.

If you’ve been looking for an excuse to make a reservation at Dickie Brennan’s Steakhouse, Arnaud’s, Ralph’s on the Park or maybe Kingfish, I have one for you. Those are just four of the dozens of dining establishments serving up specials as part of the “NOLA Goes Pink” campaign, led by the Ralph Brennan Restaurant Group. Chefs across the city have created special menu items for October, with a percentage of proceeds going to the New Orleans chapter of Susan G. Komen to benefit local awareness, screening and research.

So think Pink, and have some serious fun in the fight to save lives. I’m Travelgirl Stephanie Oswald, and I’ll see you next time!
