NEW ORLEANS (WGNO)- For the 11th year, the newly renovated landmark hotel Royal Sonesta New Orleans  officially ushered in the French Quarter holiday season at its highly anticipated Lighting of the Balconies ceremony.  This year’s event was hosted by WGNO ABC 26’s Kenny Lopez and took place outside the hotel’s main entrance, at 300 Bourbon St.   Two young patients from Children’s Hospital of New Orleans, Ms. Avery Brink and Mr. Riheem Westerfield, ceremoniously “flipped the switch” to illuminate thousands of twinkling lights that adorn the hotel’s expansive wrought iron balconies.

This year’s show was packed with plenty of surprises, including appearances by the New Orleans Saintsations, the Saints mascots Gumbo and Sir Saint, former Saints player, and Mike McKenzie. Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus direct from the North Pole joined in the fun!  All this entertainment sure made the holiday season bright.  Musical entertainment was provided by Quiana Lynell and her all-stars band.
