NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – For the past several years, The Revivalists have adopted New Orleans as their home. The seven-piece rock band has also adopted the Roots of Music, an after-school music and tutoring program serving more than 150 kids in New Orleans every day.

“There’s kids that have been there a few weeks that have never touched a horn before that are playing competently on it,” said Revivalists member Zack Feinberg.  “It’s an amazing, beautiful, inspiring thing, and it could give these kids the confidence that they can learn a skill, and with persistence and teamwork and they could excel.”

Derrick Tabb of the Rebirth Brass Band co-founded The Roots more than eight years ago. It continues to flourish today, and now they’re getting ready for a big show.

Saturday night, The Roots of Music presents Band Together, a coming together of The Roots, The Revivalists and other special guests. It’s a special way for the rockers to say thanks to New Orleans.

“For us to be able to give back to a community that has given so much to us over the years really means more to me than teaching a kid a horn line or teaching them a drum groove,” Revivalist member David Shaw said. “I really feel like the love that we’re sharing and passing down and everybody sharing is going to be perpetuated for years to come.”
