METAIRIE, La. (WGNO) – What happens when a pet iguana makes lunch out of a man’s athletic sock? It’s an emergency surgery for our NOLA Pet Docs, at West Esplanade Veterinary Clinic and Bird Hospital. WGNO’s Susan Roesgen reports.

Dr. Leslie Pence says iguanas use their tongues to “taste-test” their environment, and curiosity is probably what led the iguana to eat the sock.  Iguanas have also been known to eat coins and car keys.  But Dr. Pence says iguanas are intelligent animals, and pet owners have trained iguanas to come when their names are called and even walk on a leash!
