Happy Birthday, Satchmo!

This weekend is Satchmo Fest, the celebration of our most famous New Orleanian who brought the sound of jazz to the world, Louis Armstrong.

Today, August 4th is also the birthday of Louis Armstrong, born in 1901, but it’s not the day he actually celebrated.  “Pops” considered July 4th his birthday and he always celebrated himself on the very same day we celebrate America.

Today at the Louis Armstrong House Museum in New York, Louis’ birthday is celebrated on both July and August 4th. Happy birthday, Pops! We will never forget you!
