The National Weather Service confirms that an EF0 tornado touched down in the Seventh Ward this afternoon.

Tornado causes collapse of three Treme buildings, two injured

New Orleans Fire Department responded this afternoon to three structural collapses along North Claiborne in the Treme area after a possible funnel cloud touched down in the area.

Happy Birthday, Satchmo!

27th October 1970: Louis ‘Satchmo’ (‘Satchelmouth’) Armstrong (1900 – 1971), the great jazz trumpeter and vocalist meets nine year old fan Enrico Tomasso from Leeds, who travelled to London Airport specially to see his idol, and played him a tune on the trumpet.

Today, August 4th is also the birthday of Louis Armstrong, born in 1901, but it’s not the day he actually celebrated.
