NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – It’s a big holiday movie — the remake of the musical, “Annie”, and it stars Houma native, Quvenzhane Wallis.

This young starlet is twisting her way to the top.  She’s the star of the new movie, “Annie”.  She first appeared on “News with a Twist a few years ago when her first movie, “Beasts of the Southern Wild” came out.

Since then she’s been beasting it, being the youngest in Oscar history to be nominated for Best Actress at the Academy Awards.

Flash forward to now…11 year old, Quvenzhane is living the hard-knock life as Annie, everyone’s favorite foster child, performing such songs as, “Hard Knock Life” and “Tomorrow”.

“I like them both.  They were both fun to do.  ‘Hard Knock Life’ was harder to do with all the blankets and pushing all that stuff,”  Wallis said.

The remake is produced by Will Smith and wife Jada Pinkett-Smith and it stars Hollywood heavyweights, Jamie Foxx and Cameron Diaz.

“Both Jamie and Cameron told me just to be myself,”  she said.

Quvenzhane wasn’t even born when the original “Annie” came out in 1982.

“I haven’t met her, but I have seen that movie,” she said.

Wallis says she knows her version of “Annie” won’t disappoint.

“Everyone should go see this movie.  It’s a great family movie.  It’s more modern with cell phones and technology,”  she said.
