NEW ORLEANS (WGNO)- He’s one of the top DJ’s on the #1 rated Q-93 radio in town for the past 20 years. And as successful as he’s been, early on Wild Wayne wanted to walk away from the microphone.

Wayne says, “You know you kinda know everything when you just get in the game, and then I think I was gonna quit, but I talked to this guy named LBJ. I don’t know if you remember that conversation. I was like, ‘I’m outta here, dude. I can’t take it. I’m just gonna finish my college career at Xavier, and I’m gonna be a doctor.’ ”

I certainly hate having a part in derailing his plans for the medical field, but our city has certainly benefited from having him on the air.

Wild Wayne speaks to a lot of people both on and off the radio, “How many followers on Twitter? Right at about 30,000-35,000. Wow! Facebook? Oh, man. I got 4 pages. That’s a lot of people, lot of lot of people.”

A little over 10 years ago, Wayne started the Wild Wayne Summer Experience for kids as a way of giving back, but also for reasons closer to home.

“My son was 5 at the time, and at the time NORD was in pretty bad shape too, and I wasn’t feeling what they had to offer. It wasn’t just me feeling philanthropic, but it was also me wanting to provide something really nice for my son and other kids that were just like him,” says Wayne.

Now on to the fishing, Wayne’s a 7th ward guy ad no stranger to the water, he caught a big one,”Oh, yeah. That’s what I’m talking bout. Come to Daddy. Yes, you’re in the boat son. You are not going back to mama.  This is the rush you need in the morning!”
