DELACROIX, La. (WGNO)- St. Bernard Parish President Guy McInnis is a man who looks for solutions in whatever he’s done.  McInnis worked in the public sector for many years, then he chose to mold young people as a career option.  Now he sits at the top of his local government, and he’s taken it all in stride.

McInnis told us,  “I coached at the local high school Chalmette High, where I graduated from for the past 15 years, and just got involved. I ran for council 5 years ago won that election and during those 4 years I saw some challenges that St. Bernard faced, with our image with our infrastructure, and getting to the next level or re-population so I took a shot and ran for parish president and here I am…fishing with LBJ.”

McInnis has been in the top office for about a year and on the fishing pond was the perfect place to ask about the one thing he views differently since being president?

“I am in awe of our public servants now more than ever, they make the difference whether we know that or now. We go vote in the booth, but our congressmen, our senators our state representatives, they all play a vital role in our community,” said McInnis.

I’m a guy who spends 2 or 3 weekends a month in the parish because I love the fishing, but there’s no better spokesman for the treasures of St. Bernard than Guy McInnis.

“We have the best fishing in the world here, that’s truly what I believe. People can come and when we launched this morning the sun’s right here in our face and we come out to this beautiful marsh and catch all of these fish. and behind us is one of the most exciting cities in the world. In between all that is St. Bernard parish and we ask them to stop in St. Bernard and see all the cultural and historical value that we have.”
