KENNER, La. (WGNO)- A community led fundraiser was held for Taylor Friloux, the 21-year old Raising Canes manager who was stabbed to death during a robbery in late June.

Written on Taylor’s arm, her tattoo reads, “We define ourselves by the best that is in us, not the worst that has been done to us.”   Her family and friends say that Taylor’s tattoo is a permanent reminder that they must do their best, and be their best in honor of Taylor.  That’s why they’ve started “The Taylor Project”.

“We are going to make a difference with this,”  Taylor’s mothers: Jamie Reavis and Suzi Guerin said.

With the tremendous help and efforts of Amanda Bellaci, the owner of Speakeasy Bar & Grill in Kenner, they’ve started “The Taylor Project” to help future families of homicide victims.  They also plan on starting a scholarship for Chapelle High School and give money to ARNO, a no kill animal shelter.  Both places Taylor loved and supported.

“I’m hoping that with her unfortunate death we can turn it around and raise awareness,”  Bellaci said.

The fundraiser today included live music, a silent auction, food from Raising Canes and help from the Dawnbusters Kiwanis Club.

“We knew about Taylor.  We had to help,” Mel Dussel, Event chair with the Dawnbusters Kiwanis Club said.

“She’s not done here.  Taylor touched a lot of people  We’re so proud of her and she knew that.  She’s still going to live on in all of us,”  Taylor’s mothers said.
