NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – New Orleans coffee shop Mojo is on the map when it comes to mocktail, the new trend among specialty coffee drinkers.

“Finding alternative ways to prepare espresso is sort of the trend and the fad,” says Mojo Coffee House owner Demian Estevez.

That’s why Estevez crafted the Avery Island Ice Tea. A mocktail that’s unlike anything you’ve ever tasted. It’s unique to “Mojo” in New Orleans.

“It’s Madrugada espresso by Mojo Coffee Roasters on top of ginger ale over ice with a lemon and lime spritzer,” says Estevez.

Estevez says the Avery Island Iced Tea is a play on the Long Island Ice Tea, but there’s no alcohol.

Still, don’t be fooled by its cordial appearance. There’s a double shot of espresso in there but you may not be able to tell at first because Estevez says the flavors are complimentary.

“The spiciness in the ginger ale accents the acidity and then the sweetness in the espresso, pairs really well with the sweetness in the ginger ale,” says Estevez.

So this is it for specialty coffee drinkers.

Estevez says long gone are the days of the standard latte and mocha for this group of coffee connoisseurs. They want something “a little more interesting, something a little more crafted.”
