NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – Girl Scout cookies are pretty popular, and usually with a glass of milk, but some local chefs and bartenders are putting the cookies into everything from cocktails to shrimp bisque!

News with a Twist Reporter, Kenny Lopez will be emceeing a special adults-only event for the Girl Scouts Louisiana East for “A night in Emerald City-Cookies & Cocktails,” in its inaugural year!

Let’s all follow the yellow brick road to “Cookies & Cocktails at Harrah’s Theater this Saturday night.

“What we did is, we got 20 of the best chefs and bartenders in New Orleans to make their favorite drink or food dish using their favorite girl scout cookie,”  Stephanie Osborne, Co-chair for Girl Scouts Louisiana East’s event.

Chefs like Donald Julien at Warehouse Grille will be cooking up cool cookie combos!  He’ll be making a “samoas” cookie shrimp bisque.  He makes his specialty dish using coconut milk, celery, onions, stock, garlic, shrimp, and the famous “samoas”.

“I know it sounds strange, but I think it makes a good combination,”  Julien said.

Osborne even got her celebrity husband, Artist Terrance Osborne to follow the yellow brick road.

“He’s going to be making ‘burn your throat rum balls’ using ‘trefoil’ cookies,”  she said.

Justin Bupp, a bartender at Warehouse Grille, will be creating a cocktail using “thin mints” for the event.  He said the popular flavor adds to his cocktail creation.

This event is a competition between the bartenders and chefs for their clever dishes and cocktails.

Cafe Reconcile, Cook Me Somethin’ Mister, El Guapo Bitters, Victory Bar, Audubon Nature Institute Catering, Bayou Beer Garden, The Buffet at Harrah’s, Besh Steak, Skinny Louisiana, Restaurant R’evlution, The New Orleans School of Cooking and Warehouse Grille will all be featured at “Cookies & Cocktails”.

Former Girl Scout and current bartender at Bayou Beer Garden, Krystal Archer wants her cocktail to come out just right.

“Of course, it’s hard to make a cookie into liquid form.  I found it easy to complement the flavors,” Archer said.

So why don’t you click your heels together and say there’s no place like “Cookies and Cocktails”?

The event is on Saturday night, February 21st with a patron party starting at 6:30 p.m.  The gala begins at 7:30 p.m.

Robin Barnes will be performing at the patron party with Marvin Allen of the Carousel Bar & Lounge creating a signature cocktail.

Groovy 7 will be performing at the gala.

Emerald green attire and accessories are encouraged.   Once again, WGNO’s Kenny Lopez will be the emcee and WGNO’s Deepak Saini will be one of the judges.

Tickets are $60 per person or $100 for two for the gala.
