NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – If you are interested in pizza – from the traditional to some really compelling specialty flavors – Mid City Pizza has you covered.

The crew at MCP serves up New York style pies that will really hit the spot if you are wanting that East Coast favorite. From its crispy thin crust to its zippy, zesty sauce to great local toppings like Chisesi ham, Terranova’s sausage, and flour from Houma’s own Performance Food Group, MCP is bringing great slices to Mid-City.

The shop is also known for a very unique vegan pie that has actually received recognition from PETA – the Red Beans and Rice pizza.

Another bean-based pizza that MCP is succeeding with is the Taco Pizza. This specialty pizza is served each Tuesday. I mean, come on, Taco Pizza on Taco Tuesday, how awesome is that? The base of this pizza is a black bean paste topped with a blend of great cheeses, sliced tomatoes, jalapeno slices, fresh cilantro and a drizzle of sour cream. If you want to add meat to this thing, the fine folks at MCP suggest adding the herb-roasted chicken.

We also tried the Meat Monster from MCP. This is a serious pie for serious meat lovers. It starts with a zesty (but not overpowering) tomato sauce, cheese, and then loaded up with great local meats (pepperoni, Terranova’s Hot Sausage, bacon, meatballs and Chisesi ham). This pizza is not for the faint of heart, or the folks at PETA for that matter. What it is is a power-load of great meat flavors. Wow!

If you try a pizza at MCP that you love, you can also get that pie in a calzone. Or if your tastes are very specific, you can build your own pie or calzone to your liking.

Pizza isn’t the only thing going on at MCP. They have great salads, a meatball or chicken Parmesan sandwich, wings and some top-notch appetizers. In fact, don’t make a trip to MCP without ordering the house-made mozzarella sticks. These are thick cut pieces of mozzarella rolled in seasoned breading and fried to perfection. Then they serve them to you with a side of marinara sauce. A serving of these are almost a meal in itself.

So, check into Mid City Pizza for great local pies with that East Coast influence.
