Consulate of Mexico in New Orleans celebrates a ‘Healthy and Happy’ Day of the Dead

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – The Consulate of Mexico in New Orleans is bringing the Day of the Dead to life this weekend.

The consulate will host the “Healthy and Happy Day of the Dead” event at the Southern Food and Beverage Museum on Saturday, October 29, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The event will include a host of activities associated with Mexico and with the annual Dia de los Muertos celebrations, including sugar skull making, masks, and papel de picado.

Candied pumpkins, pumpkin tamales, chocolate atole, and other treats will accompany a tequila tasting.

Maria Padilla will discuss the traditions of the day, and chef Maria Araujo will provide cooking demonstrations.
