COVINGTON, La. (WGNO) – There’s a place in Covington not too far from the Justice Center that is making its mark by serving up breakfast and lunch plates that will remind you of the stuff we grew up on.
This place started out as a catering business.
As the catering picked up and they started handling gigs as large as weddings for 400, the folks at Beck-N-Call decided they could certainly handle the pace of a restaurant. With two ample dining areas, Beck-N-Call provides a place for folks in downtown Covington to leisurely enjoy breakfasts, sandwiches, burgers, salads and hot plates.
When we stopped by, the fine folks at Beck-N-Call offered us up selections from both their breakfast and lunch menus. Believe me, they did not disappoint.
The breakfast offerings were the western omelette with toast and hash browns and a side of Beck-N-Call’s french toast.
Co-owner Brian Bosarge says the french toast could be served either using french bread or using Texas toast.
The omelette was perfect. It was loaded with ham, cheese, onions and peppers. One great thing about the omelette was that the onions and peppers were grilled prior to being put in the omelette. This not only changed the texture of the veggies but it really brought out the flavors as well. I mean come on, you can never really go wrong with grilled onions.
The item from the lunch menu was Beck-N-Call’s Three Little Piggies sandwich. This concoction is roasted pork loin, pulled pork and bacon stacked high and topped off with BBQ sauce, coleslaw and mayo.
If you are into pork, this sandwich is for you. It is a generous portion of pork, but it isn’t too heavy. It was paired with a scoop of potato salad that was a more than appropriate side. It had a smooth texture and skewed just slightly towards the mustard side. If that’s not your thing, Beck-N-Call offers fries, sweet potato fries, soup or a side salad as options.
