NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – Want dinner reservation with a ghost? Muriel’s restaurant located on the corner of St. Ann and Chartres Streets, across from Jackson Square has a table prepared for the ghost Joseph Peter Lippardi and his guests.
Lippardi owned the once home in the early 1700s and lost everything he worked for when he put up his house in a poker game and lost. It was reported that Joseph committed suicide on the second floor.
Some parts of the building are still authentic and was once used for slave holdings where slaves were chained and waited to be bought. Today when you walk into Muriel’s, you’ll not only see the restaurants dinner table for its ghost Joseph and his guest but down the hall the brick walls with wooden stakes stick out of the wall where the slaves were once chained to.
Years ago a restaurant employee said, “she was tapped on the shoulder and as she turned around she was met with a young man dressed in turn of the century clothes. He introduced himself as Joseph.”
