NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – What do you get when you mix the creativeness of New Orleans folks with potholes. You get works of art. Or maybe some new digs for Barbie.

We found this pothole at Jefferson Avenue and Annunciation Street.

“With potholes, it’s pretty much an easy canvas. They’re all over the city, and when they don’t get filled in, they’re a great place to make a public statement or something happy for people to see when they walk by,” said Midori Tajiri-Byrd.

On Tuesday, she was creating two scenes.

“In one of them, Barbie is at, probably, Lake Pontchartrain and then in the second scene we have a fairyland with a little redhead hero. She is frolicking in the fairyland with her two golden glitter gator-corns,” Tajiri-Byrd explained to us.

Her work seemed to be appreciated. One passerby told us it was adorable.

“I wish she would come do this in my kitchen or on my living room floor. It’s a shame that she has to do this in the streets of New Orleans,” she said. “I think that it will help bring awareness to particularly dangerous ones, and I hope that people will be inspired to make their own pothole art!”

We don’t know if it was the art or just lucky timing, but it just so happened that the city showed up as we were wrapping up Tuesday’s Pothole of the Day segment. And they fixed it.  See, folks. We get results! Same day service!
