Maison Law Creates Wrongful Death Awareness Day to Support Surviving Families
FRESNO, Calif., Feb. 13, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- In response to the overwhelming number of surviving families who are unaware of the resources available to them, Maison Law, a personal injury law firm in California, has created Wrongful Death Awareness Day to be celebrated on February 13th.
What is a Wrongful Death Claim?
After someone dies in an accident that was caused by someone else's negligence, the family of the victim is entitled to file a wrongful death claim. The purpose of a wrongful death claim is to cover the economic and non-economic losses that the family suffers as a result of the victim's death.
These can include:
- Funeral costs
- Medical bills
- Lost income
- Pain and suffering
- Other losses that arise from the death
Why Raise Awareness?
After a wrongful death, many families are unaware that they are eligible to file a wrongful death claim against the at-fault party's insurance company. These claims can be worth thousands, if not millions of dollars. Unfortunately, insurance companies are not required to disclose that the surviving family can file such a claim. Instead, families turn to crowdsourcing to fund funeral expenses, medical bills, and other costs of recovery – not realizing that they are legally entitled to much more.
As such, Maison Law has created Wrongful Death Awareness Day to alert surviving families that they are entitled to file wrongful death claim after the loss of their loved ones. Maison Law recognizes that nothing can make the situation right; however, families shouldn't allow insurance companies to profit from their loss.
