SYNERGY HOMECARE INTRODUCES NEW PROGRAM FOCUSED ON TOTAL WELL-BEING COMPLEMENTED BY PARTNERSHIP WITH BETTERHELP
Components include supportive care plans and resources to address seniors' physical, emotional and social health
TEMPE, Ariz., Feb. 3, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- SYNERGY® HomeCare, the nation's fastest-growing home care franchise, an Entrepreneur 500 ranked enterprise and a Top Franchise according to Franchise Business Review, today announced its new Total Well-Being care program. The offering is designed to support seniors in managing their overall health across three distinct areas of wellness: physical, mental and social.
The health and well-being of seniors are increasingly critical as this demographic continues to grow. By 2030, approximately 70 million individuals in the U.S. will be aged 65 or older, making up about 20 percent of the nation's total population. The CDC reports that 80 percent of these older adults live with at least one chronic condition and one-third face challenges with daily activities like cooking and cleaning.
SYNERGY HomeCare's new Total Well-Being program includes measures to prevent falls and injuries with exercises focusing on enhancing strength, balance and mobility. It also offers mental stimulation to keep the mind active, promotes mindfulness exercises for finding fulfillment and happiness, and fosters social interactions via wellness calls and community engagement. Additionally, the program extends support to the families of clients through respite services and backs SYNERGY HomeCare caregivers with access to mental health technology.
An important component of the Total Well-Being program is SYNERGY HomeCare's newly established partnership with BetterHelp, a virtual platform providing convenient access to mental health support and therapy sessions, designed to provide affordable online talk therapy to home care clients, families and staff. BetterHelp offers a variety of communication methods, including text, phone, video and live chat, ultimately connecting individuals with a licensed mental health practitioner within the comfort of their own home. Through the BetterHelp partnership, SYNERGY HomeCare clients, family caregivers, and staff receive complimentary access to the platform for 30 calendar days, after which they can subscribe to the platform at a 15% discount.
SYNERGY HomeCare's Total Well Being program addresses three major components of seniors' overall health.
- Physical: By the age of 75, a third of men and half of all women are not active; inactivity is more prevalent among those experiencing a chronic disease. Adding any amount of exercise can improve health. In fact, 80% of the priciest chronic problems among adults aged 50 or older can be averted or controlled through physical activity.
- Mental: Anxiety or depression affects as many as 25% percent of adults 65 and older, while those aged 85 and above have the highest suicide rates of any age group, with men dying by suicide four times more often than women.
- Social: Loneliness has been linked to higher rates of depression, anxiety, and suicide; and can lead to a greater risk of heart disease, stroke and dementia.
On the physical well-being front, SYNERGY HomeCare caregivers can assist with a wide range of daily activities, including bathing, dressing and using the toilet; medication reminders, healthy meal preparation, mobility assistance and light exercise, which can improve strength, stamina and reduce risk of falls.
Emotional and social well-being is enhanced through wellness phone calls and in-person companion care, which provide isolated seniors the chance to enjoy social interactions and connections with their caregiver through friendly and meaningful conversations as well as a variety of interactive games and activities.
Caregivers can also aid clients in staying in touch with relatives and friends using technology, encourage engagement in hobbies and passions and help them participate in local community centers, clubs, senior centers or volunteer work.
"Understanding and supporting seniors' physical, emotional and social needs and how they contribute to overall wellness is the foundation of our new Total Well-Being Program," said Jenn Chasteen, SYNERGY HomeCare's Chief Marketing Officer. "Addressing all of these needs holistically is a unique approach that leads to an enhanced quality of life and overall health for older adults who can be especially vulnerable. It also provides family members with peace of mind that their loved one's overall health and happiness is well managed."
The program includes a specially designed resource guide for family caregivers called "Total Well-Being: Supporting Physical, Emotional and Social Wellness for Seniors." SYNERGY HomeCare worked with noted gerontologist and best-selling author Dr. Macie P. Smith to create the guide, which offers actionable tips and access to free online, on-demand and in-person resources to support optimal quality of life for older adults aging in place.
