BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – Southern University has given the “all clear” following a bomb threat on Monday morning.

Classes and normal operations will remain closed through Monday but will reopen on Tuesday, Feb. 1. The university says that on-campus residents can eat at the dining hall and use the fitness center. Chick-fil-a and Prime Grill will be open from noon to 5 p.m.

 After a thorough search by the Southern University Police Department and external law enforcement agencies, the Southern University land mass (Southern University and A&M College, Southern University Law Center, Southern University Agricultural Research and Extension Center, and Southern University Laboratory School) has received an “all clear” in the wake of this morning’s bomb threat. The campus remains closed for classes and normal operations through today. Residential students may resume accessing dining and fitness center facilities. 

The campus community is encouraged to remain cognizant of surroundings and to report suspicious activity to SUPD at 225-771-2770. Continue to stay updated with the Jags Safe app, a free download available for all mobile devices. 

The university sent out this tweet at 11:10 a.m., “Attention SUBR on Campus Residents: Mayberry Dining Hall has been cleared and students are allowed to move around and eat. The campus shuttle will run from the Residential Halls to Mayberry for food service beginning at 11.”

Southern University and A&M College received a bomb threat this morning, Monday, January 31. The Baton Rouge Land Mass including Southern University Lab, Southern University Agricultural Research and Extension Center, and the Southern University Law Center has been placed in lockdown status.

Classes have been canceled and students are to remain in their dorm rooms until an all-clear is issued. University operations will be suspended until further notice and campus entry will be limited at this time.

According to Southern, “SUPD is working with other law enforcement agencies” on the bomb threat.
