UPDATE: A man was arrested in New Orleans’ Gentilly neighborhood where a police standoff lasted several hours.

The morning of October 18, NOPD received reports of shots fired. Around 10:30, police responded to a location in the 1500 block of North Dupree Street.

When they arrived, additional reports indicated the suspect, 36-year-old Noble Thomas, had fired a weapon and was possibly still inside the location. A SWAT roll was then declared. blocking off multiple streets and limiting access to others.

“At one point, there were about 6 undercover SWAT trucks right on our small street here, and they all started suiting up, getting their guns ready. It was just a bunch of activity from a usually quiet neighborhood,” neighbor Jon Gross explained.

Police ordered Thomas to come out, there was no response. More information from negotiators and people connected to the suspect led police to believe he escaped just blocks away.

Shortly before 4:30 p.m. police found Thomas at the intersection of Mandeville and North Johnson streets — about 12 blocks away. He was arrested with no injuries reported.

Thomas was booked in the Orleans Parish Justice Center on the following charges:

  • Aggravated assault
  • Aggravated criminal damage to property
  • Illegal use of a weapon

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The NOPD has declared a SWAT roll in the 1800 block of North Dupre Street. According to a NOPD press alert, a man has barricaded himself inside a residence at the location.

The NOPD has advised the public to avoid the area while police activity is ongoing.

Drivers in the area of St. Bernard Avenue west of North Broad Street are asked to find alternate routes.
