CHALMETTE, La. — On Monday afternoon, St. Bernard Sheriff James Pohlmann held a press conference to discuss the incident on Saturday, at the Louisiana Crawfish Festival.

Sheriff Pohlmann further described the incident as a stampede. Some festivalgoers reported that shots were fired, but police have not been able to confirm this.

As a result of the stampede, two people were hospitalized, but have since been released.

Additionally, Sheriff Pohlmann said after the stampede, deputies had to assist with returning multiple missing children to their parents.

Sheriff Pohlmann also discussed Saturday’s shooting near the corner of Juno Drive and Patricia Street, in Chalmette.

Around 11:45 on Saturday night, officers responded to calls of gunfire and shots fired.

When officers arrived on the scene, they discovered two teenagers suffering from gunshot wounds.

A 15-year-old male was shot in his side and 16-year-old was shot in the foot.

According to Sheriff Pohlmann, the teens were walking down the street when they say a dark-colored SUV pulled up beside them and began firing.

Police have no other information, and this is investigation is ongoing.
