I get to tell stories for a living. It doesn’t get any better than that! I’ve been with WGNO since November 2011. Before that, I worked as reporter, anchor and producer in South Dakota and Wyoming.
I left my heart in San Francisco but I found my appetite in New Orleans. Gumbo, Jambalaya, Red Beans & Rice, oh my! Sure, I miss the California beaches but there’s no place like New Orleans. The food soothes you, the music moves you and the rich history and culture take you back in time. This place is a storyteller’s paradise. As a reporter at WGNO, I have the privilege to share some great stories with you.
When friends come to visit New Orleans, the first place I take them is … Café Du Monde in the French Quarter. Gotta start off the experience with coffee and beignets right?
On Friday/Saturday nights you’ll find me … at home, catching up on my DVR and trying not to pass out before 9p.m.
I’m known around the newsroom for … comic relief.
My greatest TV moment was … reporting on a young disabled war veteran in Wyoming who had less than a year to live. He was fighting cancer, out of a job and couldn’t keep up with the medical expenses. No one was helping him except a kind doctor who performed his surgeries for free. After my story aired, I got a call from the late U.S. Senator Craig Thomas’ office who got the veteran all the help he needed.
A TV moment I’d like to forget is … I spent a commercial break running around the newsroom trying to find my blazer. I made it back to the anchor desk seconds before I had to go on air. I opened my mouth to speak and couldn’t breathe. I tried reading a story but couldn’t get through it. Everyone in the control room was laughing hysterically. The meteorologist had to take over.
The most important lesson I’ve learned through my work as a journalist is … everyone has a story. To treat the people I interview with respect and humanity.
I give back to my community by … supporting my friends with their charitable events, fundraisers and offering a helping hand wherever it’s needed.
If I had the time I’d like to … travel the world. There’s so many interesting places to see and experience. I have Egypt, Dubai , Australia, Italy and France on my bucket list.
My favorite Saint/Pelican (past or present) is … Thomas Morstead. He’s such a humble man who gives to much to our community.
My worst date went like this … I laughed so hard I spit ice-cream all over my date’s face. There was no second date.
