*UPDATE* – All lanes are now open. Officials say the fire was caused by a minor mechanical issue. No injuries were reported.
AKERS, LA – Interstae 55 near Manchac is closed due to a Hotard charter bus that appears to be on fire.
The picture was taken by a passerby on I-55 between the Ruddock and Manchac exits.
All northbound lanes are currently closed.
The bus was carrying 51 Amtrak passengers, who were all safely evacuated.
Amtrak said the passengers were originally supposed to take the No. 58 train from New Orleans to Memphis, but because of flooding, the passengers were put on a bus to Jackson, where they would link up with the train.
