The Southeast Louisiana Flood Protection Authority-East is suing nearly 100 oil companies.
The group is responsible for operating and maintaining the levee, floodgates and seawall protection on the East Bank.
It claims the oil companies failed to repair damage they caused to coastal wetlands which help protect the Greater New Orleans area from catastrophic flooding.
Governor Bobby Jindal wants the group to pull the lawsuit. He says it’s overstepping its bounds.
Both the Louisiana Oil and Gas Association and Jindal think the lawsuit is a way for lawyers to make money, but the East Bank group insists any money made from the lawsuit will go to rebuild the coast.
