NEW ORLEANS – A woman was struck by a streetcar on St. Charles Avenue this morning.

The woman had a heart attack while standing next to the streetcar lines, fell, and became wedged under the streetcar just after 10 a.m. at the intersection of St. Charles and Washington Avenue, according to the NOPD.

The woman ended up lodged against a safety mechanism designed to prevent people from rolling into the path of the streetcar’s wheels.

New Orleans EMS personnel treated her on the scene and took her to an area hospital for treatment.
