NEW ORLEANS (WGNO)- It’s the eighth day of “Kenny’s 12 Days of Giving,” our holiday tradition here at News with a Twist. So what’s our Christmas Elf Kenny Lopez giving away today?

Today, Kenny teamed up with world-famous artist Terrance Osborne and his lovely wife Stephanie to give away a limited-edition print, an Artist Proof of Terrance’s 2014 Official Jazz Fest poster, along with two tickets to Preservation Hall.  The piece of art is very special because it’s signed by Osborne and all the members of Preservation Hall Jazz Band.

Hundreds wrote in wanting this piece of art, but one letter really touched our hearts!

Chrystal Trosclair LaComb wrote in asking to help her brother, who’s a horse trainer at the Fair Grounds.  Her brother is Richie Scherer, and he has cancer.  On Sunday evening they threw a fundraiser at the Fair Grounds to raise money for Richie’s medical expenses.

“I decided to write in because sometimes in situations like this, you feel helpless.  I love my brother, and I’ve always looked up to him.  I wanted to help, and I thought having Terrance at the live auction would be amazing,” she said.

The art work and the tickets were auctioned off during the “Scherer Strong” fundraiser.  Initally, Tom and Colleen Amoss bid $4,000 on the art print.  They paid it and gave it back to be re-auctioned.  That’s when Brent Miller bought it for an additional $4,000.  The grand total of money raised was $8,000, all going to Richie’s medical bills.

“I feel undeserving.  I feel overwhelmed.  I feel like George Bailey, the richest man in town.  This all is very shocking, but very nice,” Scherer said.
