FRANKLINTON, La. (WGNO) – A man posing as a package delivery driver burglarized a home, kidnapped a woman who lived there and sexually assaulted her this afternoon near Franklinton.
According to the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office, a suspect, Deonte (sp?) Miller is being questioned in connection with the kidnapping and assault.
Deputies said Miller pretended to deliver a package to a rural home near Franklinton. He reportedly burglarized the home and forced the woman inside to leave with him. The victim said Miller sexually assaulted her. She was later able to escape.
Miller was caught after a multi-agency manhunt that included the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office, Louisiana Probation and Parole and Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.
Sheriff Randy Seal said “due to the complexity of this situation and many still unknown factors,” details won’t likely be made public until Monday.
“This was a dastardly crime committed by Miller,” Seal said. “Our detectives will continue to work this crime throughout the weekend. Our sincere condolences go out to the victims in this matter. Please keep them in your prayers and please be very cautious about opening your door to anyone you don’t know. Always ask for and obtain proper credentials and always look to see if a marked delivery truck is in your driveway. If you have any doubts or concerns, call 911 immediately to be connected to our office.”
