NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – A fight on the campus of Dillard University this morning culminated with a campus police officer shooting at a moving vehicle as it fled campus.

The incident began shortly before 11 a.m., when the campus police officer responded to reports of a fight, according to NOPD spokesman Tyler Gamble.

The campus police officer encountered a white Lexus with tinted windows attempting to leave campus. The officer believed that the occupants of the car had been involved in the earlier fight, so he attempted to stop the car.

The driver refused to stop and drove toward the officer, who then drew his weapon and fired one shot. The bullet did not strike anyone, and no injuries have been reported, according to the NOPD.

The Lexus fled down Gentilly Boulevard.

Gamble said the Public Integrity Bureau Force Investigation Team is handling the criminal investigation into the use of force. The Dillard PD is handling the administrative investigation.

The investigation is still in its early stages and there is no additional information to report at this time.
