NEW ORLEANS (WGNO)–The votes are counted in St. Tammany Parish, and voters on the north shore cast their ballots roughly in line with the rest of the state.

Republican Donald Trump took nearly three-quarters of presidential ballots, according to data from Secretary of State Tom Schedler’s office.  John Kennedy, whose push for a seat in the U.S. Senate will go to a runoff next month, won a clear plurality of votes but still fell short of a majority in the parish.

Nearly 8 in 10 voters chose incumbent Representative and House Majority Whip Steve Scalise, who cruised to easy re-election.  Scalise, one of the most powerful Republicans in Congress, has been in office since 2008.

Slidell’s four-way race for Chief of Police was also headed to a rundown, with Randy Fandal taking 49% of the vote and fellow Republican Kevin O’Neill, taking 23%.
