NEW ORLEANS (WGNO)

Hacksaw Ridge

Hollywood heavyweight, Mel Gibson is the director of the new inspirational film, “Hacksaw Ridge.”  There was a special screening in New Orleans at the National World War II Museum on Wednesday night.

The film is a true story about Desmond Doss, who was awarded the medal of honor for his heroic efforts in Okinawa during World War II.  Doss was a religious man and didn’t believe in using guns.  When he went to WW2, he enlisted as a medic, but he refused to use a gun.  He decided saving lives was better than taking lives.  Doss ended up saving 75 of his fellow soldiers.  In the movie, Andrew Garfield plays Doss.
