COVINGTON, LA (WGNO) — The world generally reserved for upward and downward dogs was turned over, briefly on Saturday, to rambunctious cats.

The Saint Tammany Humane Society and the Our Place yoga and fitness studio in downtown Covington hosted an event that aimed to increase fitness for people and raise funds for animals that need homes in the parish.

The event was called Meowmaste’.  The yoga crowd at the studio could make reservations to get in a workout while adoptable cats joined them in the room.  There were also cat toys to help make sure the humans weren’t the only ones exercising.

Workers at the STHS say that the event provides a rare occasion to feature only their adoptable cats.  Normally, the shelter’s events are only for dogs or include dogs and cats.  That often creates a problem for the cats because they’re coping with barking dogs at the same time strangers handle them to see if they’d make a great pet.

On Saturday, the cats seemed to have no problem showing their personality.  Click on the video button above to see!

The yoga event also included several vendors and a drawing for prizes.  All of the proceeds go to the Saint Tammany Humane Society.
