NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – A 22-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with a fight in the St. Roch neighborhood that left four people with stab wounds, including a 9-month-old.

Edwardnisha Raiford, 22, has been arrested and booked into the Orleans Parish Prison on charges of attempted first-degree murder and aggravated battery.

According to NOPD, the brawl happened about 3:15 p.m. Monday at the corner of Mandeville and North Derbigny streets.  Two groups began fighting, and one of the groups brandished knives and fired gunshots.

stabbing-2Four people – including a 9-month-old baby, were treated for “non life-threatening” stab wounds, police said. No one was injured by gunfire.

Raiford was identified as the woman responsible for injuring the baby. Raiford told police the target was the woman holding the baby. She said she didn’t mean to hit the baby with a knife.

Police are still working to identify the other suspects involved.
