WESTWEGO, La. (WGNO) – A Westwego man was arrested Tuesday after State Police intercepted a shipment from California containing 420 pounds of marijuana. According to State Police, authorities in San Jose, California, contacted State Police about a large amount of marijuana that was headed to Westwego. Troopers, including Luke the K-9, intercepted a freight shipment that contained 12, 55-gallon drums of soaking salts. Inside the drums were vacuum sealed bags of marijuana that weighed 420 pounds. The investigation led troopers to a home in Westwego, where they also found 12 more pounds of marijuana, about 14 pounds of cocaine, 543 doses of steroids and paraphernalia for selling marijuana. Michael Kwan, 32, of Westwego, was arrested and booked into the Jefferson Parish Jail on the following charges: attempt to possess with intent to distribute marijuana, possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession with intent to distribute cocaine and possession with intent to distribute steroids.
