NAPOLEONVILLE, La. (WGNO) – A former Ascension Parish deputy is under arrest for malfeasance in office and first-degree rape.

According to the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office, the investigation began Monday night, when deputies learned that 31-year-old William Lanoux of Prairieville allegedly had sex with a juvenile while on duty.

Lanoux reportedly met the juvenile on a social media site and then met her at an undisclosed location in Prairieville. Lanoux said he believed he was meeting an 18-year-old girl.

He was on duty and was getting off work soon after meeting the girl.

Lanoux reportedly admitted to having sex with the girl, who was also reported as a juvenile runaway.

He has been a sheriff’s office employee since 2008 and most recently worked as a detective. He was terminated immediately after his arrest.

Lanoux was booked into the Ascension Parish Jail.
