METAIRIE (WGNO) – After you shuck ‘em, you gotta eat ‘em, and one of our favorite ways to eat oysters is charbroiled.

WGNO is a proud sponsor of this weekend’s Oyster Festival. Each night this week, we’re featuring some of the best dishes around town.

Tonight, we take you to Drago’s, home of the original charbroiled oyster.

Chef Tommy Cvitanovich, son of Drago and Klara Cvitanovich, says the restaurant opened in 1969. It’s influenced by their Croatian heritage.

Butter, garlic, some oyster water, and a shell on top of the fire, then topped off with parmesan and Romano cheese – that’s pretty much all it takes for these world-famous charbroiled oysters to make it to your mouth.

The Oyster Festival takes place June 4-5 at Woldenberg Riverfront Park next to the Aquarium. There’s no charge to get in. See you there!
