NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Applause rang out at the Glazer family club at Yulman Stadium when Tulane was placed in the Oxford, Mississippi regional, with Ole Miss as the number one seed.

Tulane head coach David Pierce, who has reached the NCAA tournament in all 16 seasons as a college coach, said he has never been to Oxford.
But, that he’s glad Tulane will not be playing in Baton Rouge.

“I like it, by I am a little surprised. I am glad we have a chance to have a different experience and go out of the state. You know you are going to play an SEC or ACC. It is a great atmosphere, with great fan support. It will be a fun regional and our fans are looking forward to going there,” said coach Pierce.

“I don’t think we wanted to go Baton Rouge, we wanted to go to something new. It is not we don’t have confidence against LSU, we beat them twice. We want to go somewhere new and face a tough challenge,” said Tulane 2nd baseman Jake Willsey.

Utah is the four seed in Ole Miss. Boston College, the three seed will play second-seeded Tulane Friday afternoon.

A deep pitching staff gives Tulane a chance in any regional. The Green Wave will bring something else with them to Oxford, confidence.

At Monday’s NCAA tournament announcement, the seniors were presented the American Athletic Conference regular season championship trophy.
Jake Willsey, who is third on the team in home runs with 10, says the Wave isn’t finished.

“We know that when we play our best, there is really nobody in the country, that talent wise, can beat us, when our talent is shining thru. Like we showed against LSU, we showed in San Diego against Arizona. We are very, very good team. And, we feel like you put us in any regional, we have a shot to win it,” he said.
