New Orleans (WGNO)–The state Legislature rejects a bill that would require businesses to pay the same wages to men and women who perform the same work.

Governor John Bel Edwards says Louisiana’s pay gap is the worst in the nation because women here earn on average just 65 percent of what men do.

And when you break it down by race, black women earn just 49 cents for every dollar earned by white men.
